When you want to experience elephants in all their glory go to Dhikala in Jim Corbett National Park. In summer you are likely to encounter several herds in the grasslands. My favourite part of elephant scouting is the relationship the adult elephants share with their young. The herd is a virtual fortress of protection from predators, all the adults playing a role in keeping watch on the playful, naughty calves; nudging them gently in line when they stray.
I have photographed their antics for many hours, thoroughly entertained in the process. However, it is this tender moment between mum and baby that is among my favourites.
